Cocoa farming is a serious driver of deforestation worldwide. While 90% of the original rainforest in West Africa has already been cleared for cocoa plantations, a WWF project in Ecuador shows that there is another way. For four years, WWF Germany worked together with WWF Ecuador and CODESPA on sustainable, deforestation-free cocoa supply chains between Ecuador and Europe — with impressive successes.
For this film, which conveys the complex project successes and challenges, we developed a collage style with selective color accents. The video combines authentic project photos from the Ecuadorian Amazon region with animated elements, creating a bridge between the continents.
A major challenge in development was the very short time, so that we only achieved a timely submission as part of a large team and good cooperation with WWF. In return, we were able to access a well-stocked (!) Access the WWF database and integrate photos of numerous events and project progress into the film. We combined these with numerous chalk-look graphic elements and other photo elements, with the cocoa tree having to be created with a great deal of effort.
