Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

1. About Jojomoto & how we work

What makes Jojomoto different from other animation studios?

We are a small, permanent team of 7 employees who have been producing high-quality animations with a focus on empathic storytelling and thoughtful design since 2017. Our USP lies in the high standards of concept and design — both artistically and in terms of content. We invest a lot of time in researching and understanding topics so that complex content is not only visually impressive, but above all understandable and emotionally accessible. Our customers particularly appreciate our consultative approach and close cooperation throughout the process.

More about our team and how we work

Which industries and topics do you have particular expertise for?

We have many years of experience in the areas of Sustainability communication, social projects, complex B2B software solutions, scientific communication and NGO work. We are particularly strong at making abstract or technically demanding topics visually tangible and emotionally accessible.

Our case studies show successful projects with customers such as Commercetools (complex tech solutions), Diakonie An Sieg and Rhein (social consulting concepts) and various sustainability initiatives.

What types of customers do you work with?

We work with NGOs, public institutions, tech startups, established companies and non-profit organizations. From individual explanatory films to long-term content strategies with several videos, we support our partners with a wide range of communication goals — whether product presentation, campaign, onboarding videos or awareness building for socially relevant topics.

2. Production & process

How does the production of an explanatory film work at Jojomoto?

Before we dive into the process, it's important to know the terminology to clarify so that you know exactly what we're talking about:

  • concept = the content and narrative structure of your film (common thread, storytelling approach)
  • Style development = the visual language and design direction (colors, shapes, mood)
  • Animatic = a first moving preview of your film with the assets in chronological order
  • Assets = all visual elements of the film (characters, objects, backgrounds, graphics)

Unser The production process goes through 5 transparent phases:

(1) Briefing & topic research
We have detailed discussions with you about goals, target group and key messages, independently research the topic and analyse what the film must do in terms of communication.

(2) Concept (style development & conceptual script)
Here, we are developing two central elements in parallel: The conceptual script with the common thread, narrative structure and content as well as the Style development with mood boards, initial design elements and visual direction. This phase defines both WHAT is told and HOW it should be visually implemented.

(3) Asset creation & Animatic
We create all required visual elements (characters, graphics, backgrounds) in a coordinated style and incorporate them Animatic — a first moving version of the film that shows the timing and sequence of images. Here you can see for the first time how your film will work.

(4) Animation
Now the movie is coming alive! We animate scene by scene, refine movements, add details and bring the elements to life. This phase transforms the static Animatic into a fully animated film.

(5) Sound & finalization
In the last phase, professional voice recordings, music and sound design are added. We synchronize audio and animation perfectly, create the technical finalization in various formats and deliver the completely finished film to you.

The entire process usually takes 8-16 weeks, depending on the complexity and length of the film.

As a customer, how much time do I have to invest in the production process?

The most intensive phase for you is the beginning: During the briefing and 1-2 concept discussions (60-90 minutes each), your active participation is particularly important so that we fully understand your topic. We then work largely independently and get you feedback on defined milestone feedback — usually with the final concept/script, with Animatic and with the first animation.

These feedback rounds are easy to plan and take 30-60 minutes each. In total, you can use about 4-6 hours of active participation Calculate over the entire production period.

What do I need to prepare as a customer so that production can start?

You don't have to bring a finished concept or script — we'll develop that together. However, the following are helpful:

  • Background materials on your topic (studies, reports, existing presentations)
  • A clear Goal definition (What is the film intended to achieve? Who should he reach?)
  • Target group information
  • If available: Brand guidelines or visual references that you like

The more context we have, the more targeted we can work — but even with little preparatory work, we can find the right path together.

How many revision loops are included in the process?

In each of the five project phases, two rounds of adjustment with corrections and changes included. This means: After the concept, after asset creation/Animatic, after the first animation and after the sound version, you can give feedback twice and make requests for changes.

These structured feedback moments ensure that the film is heading exactly in your direction, step by step. The two rounds per phase give you enough scope for fine-tuning without constant changes interrupting the production flow.

Major content or conceptual changes outside this structure can result in time and price adjustments — but in the vast majority of projects, the built-in loops are completely sufficient.

Can I make changes at any time during production?

We work with clearly defined Milestone feedbacks, which are optimally integrated into the production process. Minor adjustments and fine-tuning are possible in every phase — that's what the two feedback rounds are for.

However, the phase-specific logic is important:

  • Major changes to the narration or content structure Must be in the Concept phase (phase 2). As soon as we start creating assets, all visual elements are based on the coordinated text — subsequent large text changes would mean that finished assets would have to be created anew.
  • Big visual changes (different characters, completely new scenes, different image composition) should be made at the latest in Asset phase (phase 3) must be clarified. As soon as the animation is running, fundamental image changes are very complex, as animated sequences would have to be created anew.

At every milestone, we communicate transparently which changes are still easy to implement in which phase and where major adjustments become complicated. Our goal is for you to be in control at all times through the structured feedback rounds — without unnecessary production costs.

3. Prices & investment

How much does an explanatory film cost at Jojomoto?

Our explainer videos, product videos and UX-videos start at 6,000€ for the first minute of film length. This prize covers the entire production process from the initial concept idea to the final film, including professional voice-over, music and sound design.

Important to understand: The first minute is the most time-consuming, as this is the complete Style development, concept work and asset creation takes place. We develop the visual language, create all basic elements and define the look of the film.

From the second minute, it becomes significantly more efficient, as we can build on the developed style and existing assets. That is why a 2-minute film does not necessarily have to be 12,000€, but starts at just 9,000.

The final investment also depends on other factors:

  • animation style (2D animation vs. complex 3D vs. character animation)
  • Complexity of content (scientific/technical topics require more research)
  • number of assets (many different characters, scenes or objects increase the effort)
  • additional services (multilingual versions, various format adaptations, accelerated timelines)

Social media clips Start at 3,000€ for 30 seconds — here too, the effort required to develop the style is initially higher, while further clips in a series become cheaper.

Motion design bundles and UX microanimations start at just 300€ for individual clips and can deliver a real impact even on a small budget.

How are your prices compared to other providers?

We are a small, permanent team with many years of experience — not a large high-class agency but also not a freelancer platform with batches of goods. This is also reflected in our prices.

Each project goes through intensive research and concept phases, receives individually developed designs (no templates) and benefits from our expertise in complex visual communication. The result is films that not only look beautiful, but also have a measurable effect and create value in the long term.

Our customers invest in quality that stands out from interchangeable solutions.

What is the price and when does which animation style become more expensive?

The main pricing factors are:

(1) Production time (depending on film length)
(2) Animation style (2D animation is usually cheaper than complex 3D animations or character animation)
(3) Complexity of content (scientific or technical topics require more research)
(4) Number of assets (many different characters, scenes or objects increase the effort)
(5) Additional services (multilingual versions, various format adaptations, accelerated timelines)

A minimalistic 2D style is significantly more efficient than photorealistic 3D product visualizations or complex character animations with many different characters.

Are there package prices for video series or long-term cooperation?

Yes, for content series or long-term partnerships, we can often significantly more efficient pricing models because style guides, asset libraries, and workflows can be reused.

We have successful long-term collaborations such as with Enpal, Commercetools or Hubspot, where we continuously produce various formats. Feel free to talk to us about individual package solutions or framework agreements — this makes sense especially for planned social media campaigns or video channel development.

Are paid ad buyouts already included in the price?

Our standard prices cover organic use on your own channels (website, social media, internal use). For Paid advertising (Google Ads, Social Media Ads, TV, Cinema) are additional buyout fees , which depend on the reach and duration of the campaign.

We clarify this transparently in the briefing and calculate fair industry-standard buyouts that are appropriate to your advertising budgets. Talk to us early so that we can plan for it from the start.

4. Formats & areas of application

Which video formats do you produce?

We produce:

All formats are created with an individual concept and tailor-made design — no template solutions.

Do you also make 3D animations?

Yes, we work with both 2D and 3D and often combine both techniques in a hybrid way for unique visual results. We use 3D in particular for Product visualizations (e.g. technical devices, machines), spatial representations or when certain visual effects require a three-dimensional environment.

A particular advantage with technical products: If you already CAD data (e.g. STEP, IGES, STL or native formats such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360), we can integrate them directly into our 3D workflow. This saves time and guarantees technically accurate representations — particularly valuable for complex machines, industrial products or precise technical devices.

We are happy to advise you on which technology has the best effect for your project — not every project needs 3D, but where it makes sense, we use it specifically.

Product video examples with 3D

Can we update an existing movie or create new versions?

Yes, that is easily possible. If you already have a movie from us and need content updates, new versions or format adaptations, we can build on the existing assets. This is significantly more efficient than a complete new production.

We are also the right partner for multilingual versions, different cutting lengths or adjustments to new brand guidelines.

Do you also produce international/multilingual videos?

Absolutely. We have experience with multilingual productions and work with professional translators and native-speaker speakers. In doing so, we also pay attention to cultural nuances in visual design.

Technically, we produce a master version and then create language-specific audio tracks — this is significantly more efficient than producing a new film for each language.

5. Collaboration & communication

How does communication work during production?

We work with structured feedback tools such as Frame.io (for time-coded video comments), email for formal votes and, if necessary, Slack or teams for quick queries.

You have fixed contacts and receive clear presentations with context for every milestone. We document all decisions transparently so that you always have an overview. For larger projects, we also offer weekly status updates.

Get to know our team

Do you also work remotely or do we have to come to Berlin?

The majority of our collaboration is ongoing remote and has worked perfectly over the years. Briefings, concept discussions and feedback sessions typically take place via video calls.

For customers in Berlin or if you prefer, personal meetings in our studio on Paul-Lincke-Ufer are of course also possible and are often a nice addition — but not a prerequisite for successful cooperation.

How quickly can we start a project?

Our lead time It is usually 2-4 weeks, depending on our current workload. After an initial introductory meeting, we prepare an offer and plan the kick-off when you order. The actual production then takes 8-16 weeks, depending on the scope.

For urgent projects, we often find solutions for accelerated timelines — talk to us early if you have a fixed deadline.

Can we get in touch with you during production if there are any questions?

Of course! We are available for you during the entire production period and are happy to answer any questions that arise. Whether you're unsure about feedback, need additional information, or have spontaneous ideas — we're here to listen. For us, good communication is the basis for successful projects.

6. Legal & technical

Who owns the rights to use the finished film?

After full payment, Jojomoto will transfer the comprehensive rights of use for the agreed uses. This usually includes unlimited use on your own channels (website, organic social media, internal presentations, trade fairs).

We arrange separate buyouts for paid advertising. The copyrights remain with Jojomoto, which allows us to show the projects in our portfolio. We regulate details transparently in the contract.

In which formats do you deliver the finished videos?

We deliver your film in all standard Formats and resolutionsthat you need: Typically as high-resolution MP4 files (1920x1080 Full HD or 3840x21604K), optimized for various platforms (16:9 for YouTube/website, 1:1 or 9:16 for social media).

On request, also available as ProRes for further processing. After project completion, you will receive all versions in a clearly structured manner.

Can we get the rough cut or the project files?

Die final export files All required formats are of course included in the price. The project files (After Effects, Cinema 4D, etc.) remain with us by default, as they often cannot be used without our specific setup.

If you are planning to continue editing the film internally in the future, talk to us about it — for special applications, we will find solutions such as prepared asset packages or source material transfers.

Are you barrier-free/do you work with subtitles and simple language?

Yes accessibility is important to us. Our designer Theresa has certified knowledge of digital accessibility and simple language. On request, we create subtitles (also in multiple languages), pay attention to high-contrast design, can integrate audio descriptions and advise you on inclusive design.

Especially when it comes to public institutions, educational projects or NGO content, this is often an important aspect that we think about right from the start.

You can find out more about accessibility here in the blog

7. Specialization & Niches

Do you have experience with scientific visualization?

Yes, we have multiple complex scientific and technical topics visualizes — from medical processes to sustainability research to technological innovations.

Our approach: intensive research, close coordination with experts and a balance between scientific accuracy and general comprehensibility. We know how to make abstract concepts tangible without oversimplifying them.

Example of complex topic visualization

Can you help us with sustainability communication?

Sustainability issues are one of our focal areas. We have produced numerous projects on energy transition, circular economy, social sustainability and environmental protection. In doing so, we attach particular importance to authentic visualization without greenwashing aesthetics — because true sustainability communication requires credibility and depth, not just green colors and trees.

We understand the complexity of the topic and can convey it in a visually appropriate way.

An example of sustainable communication

Do you also work with NGOs and non-profit organizations?

Very happy! We have many years of experience with NGOs, foundations and social projects Like the Diakonie An Sieg and Rhine, NABU or WWF. We know how to present socially relevant topics empathetically, address different target groups and achieve maximum impact with limited budgets.

For charitable projects that convince us, we are also open to adjusted pricing models — talk to us.

Can you explain complex B2B software in an understandable way?

Absolutely. With customers such as Commercetools (headless commerce), Enpal (solar service provider), EMnify (IoT solutions) and various SaaS companies, we have proven that we can make technically sophisticated B2B software visually accessible.

We understand the challenge: visualize abstract functions in a tangible way, translate technical benefits into user benefits and keep an eye on the target group (often decision makers, not developers).

8. Getting started

How do we start the collaboration?

Write us a short message at hallo@jojomoto.de with some information about your project:

  • What is your topic?
  • What is your goal?
  • Who is your target group?
  • Is there already an idea of the format and timeline?

We will get back to you as soon as possible for a free initial consultation (30-45 min.), in which we will discuss your project, develop initial ideas and see if we are a good fit together. You will then receive a transparent offer.

What happens during a free initial consultation?

During the initial consultation, we get to know your project and your goals. We ask the right questions about the target group, message and context, give initial assessments of possible approaches and advise you on which format is the best fit.

You will get a feel for how we work and we will work together to determine whether the budget and timeline are realistic. It is non-binding and helps both sides decide whether the chemistry is right.

Do I already need a ready-made concept to contact you?

No, quite the opposite! You can contact us with a rough idea or even just contact you with a problem that you want to solve communicatively. Concept development is exactly our strong suit — we help you find the right story and develop the best form of visualization.

Of course, we also like to work with existing concepts, but you definitely don't need to have everything prepared.
